11/29 TPSRadio.net and the Silicon Valley Internet Communications Network has created the TPSRadio Sports Podcast Network featuring Sports Buffet, David Pinto's Baseball Musings and Pro Bodybuilding Weekly.
11/28 GoFish has announced the premier of the Marty Weber Show. Weber was originally featured on America's Dream Date, GoFish's online dating show. Embraceware has released Awaken 3.0, a digital alarm clock for Mac OS X that lets users wake up or fall asleep to their favorite podcasts. AssistiveWare has launched a new podcast series on Mac OS X users with disabilities sharing their experiences. Apple Computer has received a patent, originally filed in 2003, for a method and apparatus for synchronizing audio and video streams.
11/27 BlogMedia, the parent company of BlogHerald, is being re-positioned as ProBlogging.com and plans to launch a podcast-only website, according to an interview at Deep Jive Interests. StreetIQ.com has launched a newly-designed website with more business channels and shows. The website also features a holiday shopping guide and podcast. The University of Colorado, which regularly creates podcasts, has created one specifically to prepare students for the possibility of an avian flu outbreak or flu pandemic.
11/22 Podtech Networks, which describes itself as a network of audio and video podcasts for covering the global technology and media industries, has moved to a 12,156 square foot office space in Palo Alto, California. The Pew Internet and American Life Project has issued a report on the modest penetration of podcasting. 12 percent of Internet users have downloaded a podcast while only 1 percent download a podcast on a typical day. Satellite provider Sky has launched a news video podcasting service which can be downloaded from its website. UK-based retailer John Lewis has partnered with Chrysalis Content to produce a series of podcasts to highlight the department store's best Christmas gift offers.
11/21 Australia's Surfing Life magazine has launched a video podcast series offering interviews, behind the scenes ASL stunts, and commentary. GoFish Corporation has appointed former Kodak EasyShare Gallery Chief Architect, Greg Schroeder, as the company's chief technology officer.
11/20 Neilsen Media Research has discovered that far more time is spent on music and audio podcasts than on video content by users of Apple's iPod, according to an article in The Hollywood Reporter. Wolverine Data has partnered with Podcast Ready to pre-load its myPodder software to easily find, manage and experience audio and video podcasts on Wolverine devices. Internet service provider Earthlink has launched You're Linked to EarthLink, an audio podcast series about the company's initiatives, products and services.
11/19 Amazon.com's editors has selected Tricks of the Podcasting Masters by Mur Lafferty and published by Que Publishing as one of the top 10 reference books of 2006.
11/17 Journalists are protesting against making unpaid appearances on CNBC as well as taking on additional podcast and webcast assignments, according to an AP article. MSNBC.com has made its most popular news programs, NBC Nightly News and Meet the Press available for free as video podcasts for iTunes and Zune in MP4 and WMV formats. Business Capital Edge will be holding the Social Media 2007 Conference on the 30th and 31st of January to cover corporate blogging and podcasting. Denver International Airport has launched Sights and Sounds, a video and audio podcast series offering tips and regulation updates for travelers. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has launched a series of free audio and video podcasts in anticipation of the upcoming visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in New York.
11/16 EMI Music has agreed to license its library of music videos to Gotuit Media, an online video portal and on-demand cable service, and to share advertising revenues.
11/15 PodJournals has launched a social podcasting service for Mac OS X that lets family and friends share a journal with audio and video content.
11/14 NBC News Today has announced plans to offer video podcasts of the NBC Nightly News and Meet the Press on MSNBC.com. America's Car Show, hosted by Tom Torbjornsen, has partnered with AOL Autos to syndicate its radio show to the website. WallStreet Direct has launched two new business podcasts, Eye on Asia with Jessica C. Lee and Technomics 101 with Henry Truc. SearchforMedia Network has added a new channel that let users search for audio and video clips of popular celebrities.
11/13 ESPN.com has added local coverage of sports to its ESPN PodCenter with the latest from Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas and Pittsburgh. TiVo has announced plans to broaden its digital video recording service by letting users of its set-top boxes download videos from the Internet and watch them from their television sets. LYCOS has launched LYCOS Cinema, a platform that lets multiple users watch online videos simultaneously while chatting about the content in real-time.
11/10 Insurance.com has added new website features that enable users to search through its archive of podcasts. Amanda Congdon, co-founder and former host of the comedy video blog Rocketboom.com, is developing and planning to star in a comedy program that features online video content for HBO, according to an article in The Hollywood Reporter. U.S. auto manufacturer Chrysler has launched the Chrysler Music Legends Podcast Series to celebrate various musical artists and to promote its new redesigned Sebring vehicles. PodCamp Pittsburgh will be meeting at the Pittsburgh Filmmakers on the 11th and 12th of November. UpSNAP (OTCBB: UPSN) has launched a revenue sharing program for podcasters that inserts pay-per-call advertising in front of audio streams delivered via its mobile podcasting service.
11/09 John C. Havens, About.com guide to podcasting, has completed his latest white paper on The Real ROI for Podcasting. He will also host Leverage the Power of Podcasting to Build Communication and Train your Audience, a free webinar at Thomson NETg on the 14th of November. Grouper has launched a separate channel called ScreenBites featuring 30-second clips of famous film and TV content from the library of its new owner, Sony. The Weather Channel has signed Honda as a sponsor for its weather podcasts and ski reports to promote its hybrid and natural gas vehicles. Charles Schwab has launched two podcast series offering stock market updates and analysis from Schwab Chief Investment Strategist Liz Ann Sonders. Microsoft has signed a deal with Universal Music Group which will receive a payment for every Zune player sold in exchange for access to artists and rights to music. Microsoft is reportedly planning to spend about $100 million to market the launch of Zune, according to an article in Advertising Age. The Sundance Channel has announced that it will selling select episodes of The Hill, The First Amendment Project and The Staircase for $1 on iTunes. Cingular Wireless is shipping the new Motorola Inc. Razr V3 R phone equipped with MP3 capabilities, but not with Apple iTunes, according to an article in RCR Wireless News. Disney has confirmed plans to release the movies Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest through iTunes for the holidays. MarketWatch.com has partnered with Sphere to install a blog search engine on its webpages that returns results from related news and information sites and online books, photos and podcasts.
11/08 Andrew Heyward, former president of CBS News, has joined the board of The NewsMarket, a distributor of video news releases, corporate video and other footage to 10,000 outlets in the U.S. and abroad. The Cato Institute, a Washington DC-based think tank on public policy, has selected PodZinger to provide audio and video search capabilities on its web site and library of archived podcasts. By 2010, online video ads will bring in $2.9 billion making up 11.5% of the online advertising market, according to an eMarketer study. Microsoft has negotiated the rights to rent or sell movies and episodes of television shows from CBS, MTV Networks, Paramount, Warner Brothers and Turner Broadcasting for downloading through its Xbox Live online service in the United States starting the 22nd of November. Computer Science E-1, Understanding Computers and the Internet at the Harvard Extension School, has selected the Switchpod Network to host its audio and video podcasts this fall.
11/07 ID3 Magazine has added GoFish Corporation (GOFH) and Wizzard Software Corporation (WIZD) to its ID3 Podcast Index. Verizon Wireless, a joint venture between Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Plc, is reportedly in advanced talks with YouTube to deliver its video through the carrier's premium V Cast cellphone service, according to the Wall Street Journal. Douglas Fulton, formerly of JumpTV and SBS Broadcasting, has joined DAVE Networks as President of Entertainment to build partnerships with larger entertainment firms. SearchforMedia Network has expanded its coverage of movie trailers from both large movie studios and independent studios around the world.
11/06 XM Satellite Radio Holdings ended the 3rd quarter with 7.2 million subscribers, an increase of 43% over the period a year ago. The cost of adding each subscriber rose to $93 versus $89 a year ago. Comcast is preparing for a late November/December launch of Ziddio.com, a service similar to YouTube with the added possibility of uploaded videos being broadcast nationwide.
11/04 YOGAmazing, which recently surpassed 1 million downloads for its weekly yoga video podcast, has secured sponsorship deals with Zone Perfect Health Bars and the CW Network for the Season 2 DVD launch of Veronica Mars. Apple Computer is offering a free, three-part seminar on podcast production featuring Joe Cipriano, a veteran announcer for major television networks, Paul Garay, host of Inside Home Recording, and Pete Alcorn, business manager for Apple iTunes Podcast Directory. Podcamp San Francisco will be held on the 18th and 19th of November at the historic Swedish American Hall. California State University campuses have joined Apple Computer's iTunes U program which lets students download audio and video lectures and class notes as well as upload content to share with professors and the rest of the class.
11/03 Podcast Ready has launched a virtual conference room in Second Life, a virtual avatar-driven universe, to market its podcasting services. Zune.net, the official website for Microsoft's Zune device, uses the word, podcast, and alludes to the possibility of sharing and buying them from the Zune Marketplace. BrightRoll has officially launched its video ad network which delivers text, banner and pre-roll and post-roll video ads. XM Satellite Radio Holdings has partnered with Cingular Wireless, a wireless carrier with more than 58 million customers, to stream 25 commercial-free XM music channels to Cingular handsets. Apple Computer has added a red version of its tiny iPod nano to its popular line of digital music players. The 8-gigabyte device, which can store about 2000 songs, will retail for about $249 with $10 going to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.
11/02 Nemesea, a female-fronted Dutch goth-rock band, is expected to be the first band to raise $50,000 for a studio recording session through Sellaband.com. New Paradigm Resources Group has launched Conversations With Communications, a podcast series focusing on issues in the telecommunications industry.
11/01 Cingular has announced plans to partner with several online music services, including Napster, Yahoo! Music, and eMusic, to deliver music over its wireless network, in effect, competing against Apple iTunes. The number of unique users visiting StreetIQ.com has slipped 3% to 425,873 in October from September's 440,069, according to FinancialContent, the parent company of StreetIQ.com. Horizon Wimba has released Wimba Voice Tools version 5.1 to enable teachers to add podcasts to online courses and for students to subscribe to them. Apple Computer has launched iTunes Latino, a new store within its iTunes store featuring Latin music, video, audiobooks and podcasts. Cancer Research UK has launched a podcast series to highlight the organization's health awareness campaigns and charity activities. Focus on the Family has launched The Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast featuring interviews with actors and producers from Adventures in Odyssey, a popular radio show. Women's New Media in partnership with Tango Pix have launched New Media Spotlight, a podcast series featuring best practices in the use of new media in marketing. Yamji, a social networking website focused on cinema, has partnered with WildVoice, a community for creating and sharing podcasts, to launch a movie review podcast series.
